Dear Abolition 2000 Friends, Nuclear Weapon Abolition Day Friends, and
other Friends,

What follows is the text of a fax I will send on Monday to Tony Blair in
defence of Sheriff Margaret Gimblett.

Sheriff Margaret Gimblett has said that she is worried about her job
after her historic decision about Trident on 21 October.

It is my feeling, that we should not let this happen. It would be a slam
in the face of International Law, if she would lose her job.

Sheriff Margaret Gimblett showed great courage in upholding
International Law when she acquitted Ulla Roder, Ellen Moxley and Angie
Zelter at Greenock Sheriff Court from the charge of malicious damage to
and theft from the barge "Maytime", a floating laboratory on Loch Long
in Scotland which provides operational support for
Trident submarines.

Please, feel free to use either the same letter or make you own version
of it, but send a letter to Tony Blair in support off the Sheriff. I
really think it is a necessary thing to do!

Thank you on beforehand,

Peace,
or saved by
the pigeon,

Ak Malten,

Global Anti-Nuclear Alliance

Dear Mr Blair,

I have read that Sheriff Margaret Gimblett has said that she is worried
about her job after her historic decision about Trident on 21 October.
In an exclusive interview with the Scottish Express from her home
on the Isle of Bute she said:

"I have the highest respect for these CND women, but I myself am not a
CND supporter: I am totally apolitical. I am rather worried about my job
after this. I certainly won't be expecting a mention in the Queens
Honours list."

The historic decision of Sheriff Margaret Gimblett was to acquit Ulla
Roder, Ellen Moxley and Angie Zelter at Greenock Sheriff Court from the
charge of malicious damage to and theft from the barge "Maytime", a
floating laboratory on Loch Long in Scotland which provides operational
support for Trident submarines.

The Sheriff concluded that the women had acted without malice and
without criminal intent. In her view the illegality of the Trident
system under international law justified their action. She directed the
jury to acquit the women on all charges.

This historic decision of Sheriff Margaret Gimblett about Trident on 21
October is welcomed all over the World as a victory for International
Law.

Ak Malten, Global Anti-Nuclear Alliance, said about this:

"Sheriff Margaret Gimblett did a great job in upholding International
Law. It would be a slam in the face of International Law if Sheriff
Margaret Gimblett lost her job, because of that fact."

I hope you will consider that the acquittal was based on International
Law in your decision making process about Sheriff Margaret Gimblett's
job.

Yours sincerely,

<signed>
