This is kinda OT,but seemed worthwhile to discuss...
here it goes...again.are they gonna win this time?
Should it be allowed?
Next, we will be given a list of names we can choose
from..IF no one else there wants em....and what if we
wake up one day soon to ind our site gone...just
because someone on their side of the net thought it
may have reminded people of theirs..?...sounds mega
sucky to me. No one should have that kind of power..to
just dump someone's hard work over a similar sounding
or perhaps, in their opinion, implying an already
existing name! and we all know how fast these
advertising places pop out new slogans....it will be a
fiasco!!!!!!!!!!

House Moves To Protect Domain Names
WASHINGTON (AP) _ The House has voted to ban
``cybersquatting,''
the pre-empting of Internet domain names with the aim
of selling
those names to companies or people with trademark
associations to
them.
The legislation, passed by voice vote on Tuesday,
would bar the
bad faith registration or trafficking in domain names
that are
identical to or confusingly similar to a distinctive
trademark.
It would also allow trademark owners to seek
cancellation of an
infringing domain name if they can prove they
attempted but were
unable to locate the owner of the name.
Domain names are the addresses computer users
enter to access a
particular Web site. They come between ``www'' and
``com,'' ``net''
or ``org.''
The Senate in August approved a similar bill. The
administration
opposes the legislation, saying courts have been
friendly to the
victims of cybersquatting and it would be better to
allow courts to
develop a body of case law in the area.
___
The bill is H.R. 3028.
