The following is a message sent to myself and probably other members
of the hacktivism list, I thought that sending it out to the list as
a whole would be a good way to get more than just my answers to these
questions. I have removed the email and contact information as the
person is not a list member. I will forward replies and point this
person to the list archive on the site.

Subject: Echelon -- Harvard Current
I'm a writer for the Current, a popular interest/political magazine for
college students (distribution ~200,000, 20 colleges). I am working on an
article on the ECHELON system that is rumored to be used by the NSA, etc
etc. I came across your name on the Hacktivism website, and I was
wondering where I could find out more.
Did "International Jam Echelon Day" actually take place on OCtober 21,
1999, and did anything interesting come of that? Will it happen again? Where
did you personally learn about Echelon and how did this "Jam Echelon"
thing get started? Who else should I speak to regarding my article?
Also, could you fill me in perhaps on an apparent controversy between the
American Federation of Justice and the hacktivism people? Does the "Robert
Kemp" who apparently spearheaded Jam Echelon Day last year actually exist
(his hotmail adddress doesn't work), and where can I reach him?
On that note, would you be able to elaborate more about what "hacktivism"
is about?
Thank you very much in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you.
