[a few things of note: NASA has denied mind-reading technology
and thus, its printing in a major newspaper brings even more of
a focus on the line between black-box science and technologies,
and the indistinguishable line into the realm of magic devices.
from what's been said, it seems the science is still a ways away,
and also that the social issues, Nasa stated, would be addressed
should such a device be in the R&D sluice. apparently it is not.
also, heard a few weeks back about China's willingness to explore
alternative energy technologies, most likely related to the issues
in the article on energy in China today. quoted on the radio a
representative from China said that, after pollution is figured
into the energy equation, it is easier and cheaper to go with
alternative energy technologies, than to deal with known failings
of today's energy approaches. that is a fairly rough paraphrase.]
