like JED, this event seems to have drawn much public attention...i personally spent several hours over the past week or so standing near newstands and answering questions regarding "all the fuss."  Most of the papers in the san jose area reported that the WTO talks utterly failed (san jose mercury, santa cruz sentinal, SF examiner, SF chronicle).  what that means specifically to anyone who has followed their adventures is irrelevant compared to the fact that many people just got exposed to the following meme:

   ORGANIZED DISSENT HAS AN EFFECT.

BTW, i just loved the headline i saw recently that said "world's eyes turn to mars" - i can say that mine didn't and the streets of santa cruz are abuzz still with N30 and NO ONE is talking about the mars mission.
