It seems an organization in Indiana has decided to take over this movement
[article below]. Obviously, someone in the American Justice Federation
decided to pass on the alert about Jam Echelon Day to their boss, Linda
Thompson and she seems to have decided to sponsor the event while changing
the day of the event. Without the event occurring on October 21, it will
have little tangible effect.

Linda Thompson is the producer of a video called "Waco: The Big Lie." I
have seen this video and it is by far the most incriminating documentary on
the Mt. Carmel massacre. In the past few years I have noticed that many
organziations tied to the militia and patriot movements have, however, spoke
rather harshly of her and it has always puzzled me, until now. I can see
that she is prone to acting irresponsibly, if not downright disruptively. I
would not have had a problem with the organization's usurpation of the
campaign if it were not for the fact they have changed the date via some
major internet media [Wired News for example]. She has seen to it that Jam
Echelon Day will have no tangible effect, i.e. facilitating smoother and
freer communications on Stop Police Brutality Day [Oct. 22]. Or has she?

I have spent considerable time in the past trying to track down an email
address for Linda Thompson for other reasons, among them to order a copy of
her Waco expose. She is notoriously hard to locate and there is a multitude
of email addresses to be found online for her, none of which work. The
organization she founded, the American Justice Federation, is also not
online seemingly which is odd considering that the organization seems to
engage in a whole lot of net media, apparently through clandestine
connections.

The group DOES have a snail mail address however and it is below. Also
below is the popular online consensus reality as to just who Linda Thompson
is.

I will be working long and hard tonight on an alert informing the world of
the necessity of holding this day, as planned, on October 22.
I will also send an open letter to the American Justice Federation via a
HUGE amount of net forums. I plan also to see to it that Wired News find
out exactly what has happened here.

Linda Thompson
Self-proclaimed "Acting Adjunct General" of the "Unorganized Militia of the
United States," Linda Thompson is an influential figure in the militia
movement. She is a lawyer in Indianapolis and chairman of the American
Justice Federation, which describes itself as "a group dedicated to stopping
the New World Order and getting the truth out to the American public."
Thompson claims to have contact with militias in all 50 states. She appears
frequently at militia gatherings and gun shows to lecture and sell her
videos "Waco, The Big Lie," and "Waco II - The Big Lie Continues." The
latter, she claims, "proves conclusively the government murdered 100 men,
women and children at Mr. Carmel in April, 1993." She also sells other
propaganda material such as "The Traitor Files," which purport to link "Bill
and Hillary Clinto to a Marxist-Terrorist network."
Thompson's most ambitious undertaking to date was a planned militia march on
Washington, D.C., on September 19, 1994, where an ultimatum was to be
delivered to the government. The ultimatum commanded members of Congress to
initiate legislation that would, among other things, repeal the 14th, 16th
and 17th Amendments to the Constitution, and the Brady Law and NAFTA.
Thompson ordered all participants to come "armed and in uniform," and that
besides delivering the ultimatum, "The militia will arrest Congressmen who
have failed to uphold their oaths of office, who will then be tried for
Treason by citizens' courts." Realizing after several months that support
for her march was lacking, Thompson called it off. Thompson continues to
appear at rallies and conferences around the country, on radio and on
computer bulletin boards, promoting the militia cause and calling down
thunder upon the American government and its law enforcement agencies. On
the subject of the Oklahoma bombing, she said: "I genuinely believe the
government did this bombing... I mean, who's got a track record of killing
children?" (Anti-Defamation League, 31)

Hackers Ascend Upper 'Echelon'
by James Glave

3:00 a.m. 6.Oct.99.PDT
Mossad. Bomb. Davidian. M15.
If the hunch of a loose-knit group of cyber-activists is correct, the above
words will trip the keyword recognition filter on a global spy system partly
managed by the US National Security Agency.
The near-mythical worldwide computer spy network reportedly scans all email,
packet traffic, telephone conversations -- and more -- around the world, in
an effort to ferret out potential terrorist or enemy communications.

Once plucked from the electronic cloud, certain keywords allegedly trigger a
recording of the conversation or email in question.
Privacy activists have used the words in their signature files for years as
a running schtick, but on 18 October, the American Justice Federation hopes
to trip up Echelon on a much wider scale.
"What is [Echelon] good for?" asked Linda Thompson, a constitutional rights
attorney and chairman of the American Justice Federation.
"If you want to say we can catch criminals with it, it is insane that anyone
should be able to snoop on anyone's conversations."
"Criminals ought to be caught after they commit a crime -- but police are
not here to invade all our privacy to catch that two percent [of criminal
communications]," she said.

On 18 April, Thompson, along with Doug McIntosh, a reporter for the
federation's news service, and members of the hacktivism mailing list
community, invite anyone concerned about the system to append a list of
intriguing words to their emails.

Specifically, they suggest the following keywords:
FBI CIA NSA IRS ATF BATF DOD WACO RUBY RIDGE OKC OKLAHOMA CITY MILITIA GUN
HANDGUN MILGOV ASSAULT RIFLE TERRORISM BOMB DRUG HORIUCHI KORESH DAVIDIAN
KAHL POSSE COMITATUS RANDY WEAVER VICKIE WEAVER SPECIAL FORCES LINDA
THOMPSON SPECIAL OPERATIONS GROUP SOG SOF DELTA FORCE CONSTITUTION BILL OF
RIGHTS WHITEWATER POM PARK ON METER ARKANSIDE IRAN CONTRAS OLIVER NORTH
VINCE FOSTER PROMIS MOSSAD NASA MI5 ONI CID AK47 M16 C4 MALCOLM X REVOLUTION
CHEROKEE HILLARY BILL CLINTON GORE GEORGE BUSH WACKENHUT TERRORIST TASK
FORCE 160 SPECIAL OPS 12TH GROUP 5TH GROUP SF

The campaign has spread around the Net and has been translated into German.
Organizers hope "gag Echelon day" catches on on a global scale as a means of
raising awareness of the system.

Neither the NSA, nor its UK equivalent -- the Government Communications
Headquarters -- has admitted that the system exists, although its
capabilities have been debated in the European Parliament.

Australia's Defense Signals Directorate, an agency allegedly involved in
Echelon, recently admitted the existence of UKUSA, the agreement between
five national communications agencies that reportedly governs the system.

Last fall, the Washington-based civil liberties group Free Congress
Foundation sent a detailed report on the system to Congress, but the system
was not debated.

The latest effort hopes to further boost public awareness of the system.

"Most people are angry about it," said Thompson. "When you find out it is
not some science fiction movie, most people will be outraged."
But an Australian member of the activist community hopes that "jam Echelon
day" will be about public awareness of technologies of political control,
not about generating paranoia.
"Public awareness should empower -- not scare people aware from using the
Net," the activist, who identified himself only as Sam, said.
