Through an unusual set of circumstances, this Sunday evening I'll be on
CBC-TV's Undercurrents program.

A month or so ago I had a request for information from one of the people
working with iComm to help the University of East Timor. The request for
info was about the hack of Connect Ireland earlier this year.

For those who didn't hear about the hack, Connect Ireland is an ISP which
provides name service for the .tp country domain for East Timor. Not being
very well informed on the hack, I asked if anyone knew more about it on an
iComm-hosted Internet technical mailing list (srh@icomm.ca) and several
people responded.

Anyway, around the same time I had sent out a press release to a number of
CBC email addresses about the looting and burning of one of the Dili
campuses of the University of East Timor. Sadly no-one followed up on the
release, but I was contacted by an Undercurrents producer who was doing a
story on the Connect Ireland hack.

I agreed to be interviewed for the story because I hoped it might draw
some positive attention and coverage to the University, the ongoing
terrible situation in East Timor, and/ or iComm. It was an interesting
experience doing an interview on camera; I hope what I said about the
Internet technical community's general opinions of the hack turns out to
be both coherent and accurate.

My thanks to twiig especially for the informative post on the srh list,
and to Carrington for being a most gracious host at the Electric Bean.
