This is the just a little thought I had today:
In reference to the 'Tar Baby', when you first mentioned the term I thought
immediately of the tar-man in the Ashanti folktales. The Ashanti are a race
of people who live in Ghana.
Here's a summary of the tale:
A woman made a wooden man covered in tar. A man was on her grounds and saw
the figure in semi-darkness, got angry, and hit the tar-man hard. After a
lot of struggle, the man got stuck to Mr. Tar because he thought it was an
intruder - but actually all this would have been prevented if the guy just
saw the tar-man for what it really was.
I don't really think the term 'Tar Baby' is offensive. I don't think it's
racist at all.
Mr. 'Cyborg Yoryie' announced that " I do not think anyone in this list so
far have said that it is wrong to force a child to have sex. What I been
seeing is people warning about
the hidden agenda behind a subject that could be a false hysteria created to
further a specific agenda."
Do we really have to say "It's wrong to force a child to have sex!" It's
kind of obvious. Forcing anyone to do that against their will is horrible,
child or no. Do we really have to say it? Isn't it obvious? False hysteria
is what we're against. More people seem to be aware of netcensoring than the
real issue.
The letter you forwarded addressed to 'Mr. BibleThumper' was a joke that's
passed around the Net a lot. I should know - I've got a copy prior to yours.
When I was forwarded that letter, I was confused and I asked a guy I'll call
Mr. P some of the questions using that letter. I'm not Catholic, but I was
wondering anyway. Mr. P said that the bible wasn't meant to be taken
literally and that laws have become more rational over the years. In a
nutshell.
Also: when the words " Sons of God." were used, I think it wasn't meant to
be taken literally.
It's a little upsetting - people on this list are beginning to flame each
other with swear words, sometimes because that person doesn't have that
other person's e-mail add, that the flame letters get forwarded to everyone
on the list. It's really sad - we can all resort to other methods of
expressing our strong feelings, can't we?
Andrea
P.S. - If there is anyone who is mad at me and wants to say unpleasant
things to me I understand - if you want you can just e-mail me at
andrea@videoworkshop.com because I'd hate to let everyone else on the list
have to read what you want to say.
