[after a tedious dead media dig, found the majority
of past items for the Understanding EM Civilization/
the architectural past section. yet, while knowing
the content was related, and thinking about it for
days while gathering and making the project content,
it is only now that it seems too abstract to communi-
cate the 'why' of relating such material to electro-
magnetism, as in its most immediate, literal sense,
it may seem to have nothing whatsoever to do with
any shared understanding, less, relation to ideas.
in effect, private work, private ideas. and so, this
is an attempt to share enough of the 'why' without
writing 200 pages on the issues, which eventually
will be combined in a work currently titled, an
architecture of reality, which borrows from and
inputs into, electromagnetic issues, via a unified
understanding of how human identity, language, and
logic function in relation to today's environment.]

this one is the most difficult to explain, but basically
it is not what is seen but the concept of a sign of a
common human perspective while retaining multiple views.

one of the primary explorations in the early 1990s was to
decipher the common code in aesthetics beyond traditional
  boundaries/definitions/categories. the one that revealed
a lot was that of infrastructures, especially tripartite
communications, energy, and transportation, which was a
way to talk about issues such as 'trade' and geopolitics
(via cars, coffee cups, containers from 'global' places,
that are now localized, bringing the world structure into
everyday sight). this ultimately brought about work on
the electrical infrastructure, and common aesthetics which
are also related to issues of 'development' which may at
times be seen in relation to this. but in an autonomous
sense, typologically, in building things, digging in the
dirt and making stuff stand and shelter and to dwell and
develop an area, place, well, tools and technologies and
also systems of operation were needed. and thus, common
things like streetlights, construction barricades, and
other details (of form, texture, color, material, etc)
could become, like a shared human view of things, one of
many ways to see how things relate while being different,
via design aesthetics. thus, have done a lot of research
into deconstruction of infrastructures and suprastructures
in order to get at the structure. which is in preparation
for the following idea on a shared structural logic...

this is almost impossible to explain in words, as it relies
on some foundation of a shared vantage and also aesthetic
analysis of the previous two, to 'see' what it is without
reading more, and the wordage may not be that helpful in
the 'what or why' of such research. so here's a short story:

once went to a museum and was absolutely amazed to see an
installation by Jenny Holzer using those stock-ticker LED
signs to barrage the viewer in multiple languages & colors
of LEDs, some type of data flowing, but also, language. and
along with the truisms, got me thinking. somehow, one day
i related it to work i was doing with the alphabet, when in
an elevator, saw the display for the 'floor number' that is
shown when traveling up and down. and the minimum amount of
'pixels' or dots one would need to represent the numbers of
the floors. having done some of the previous thinking and
some work on this idea prior, (if memory remembers right),
somehow research into the Greco-Roman alphabet came about,
to impose each letter upon the other so as to find a common
structure that could be represented by one form. as was the
case with LED displays, displaying alphabetical info. in any
case, this led to a few things, one of which is a way to try
to reason paradoxical (suspended disbelief/uncertain) states,
while remaining in reference to the traditional order. so the
one symbol became a type of pattern recognition which is oddly
enough embedded in architecture of the same beginnings as a
symbol, a detail, and possibly generative pattern. it is for
other cultures (the alphabet and numbering system), and so
it is in the same vein that this is produced. so, it could
help in reasoning a 'human' or common view of electromagnetism
and make a more accurate and shared empiricism between the
arts and sciences, and also, it could possibly be one bridge
between mathematics and language by way of a symbolic calculus
which relates to 'computing with the alphabet'. so in a sense,
this is the some of the earliest hacking and cracking of the
language, logic, and identity structures that may be of use
in reasoning and pursuing a human understanding of EM.

/news/ with this update 'the past' is mostly developed, and
so now the present needs to be caught up with, and information
regarding current collaborative work will be put online next.
