[listened to several clips/previews in streaming .mp3 format
first of which was "Grand Tesla Dream". not sure what to make
of it, if it is fair to critique it with regard to content,
yet it seems some effort is involved in approaching the ideas
and thus, working through them, as all have to do, to come to
some understanding. as with music, and ideas, sometimes they
are difficult to apprehend if not-knowing the context of their
creation. yet, the album: Vladimir Nemet > Opera Nikola Tesla
seems somewhat like an audio anthology of ideas, which are in
some ways hard to understand how they relate to the title....

. New Music Ensemble Zagreb just finished CD with music from contemporary opera
"Nikola Tesla".

. Nikola Tesla is the true unsung prophet of the electric age without whom our
auto ignition, telephone, alternating current power generation and transmission,
radio and television would all have been impossible. Yet his life and times have
vanished largely from public access. Our opera was made to remedy this
situation, and to fill this "black hole" in information space.

. It's inspired by Tesla's autobiography, and some lyrics by James Joyce and
E.E.Cummings.The music is structurally really something new, with no accent on
simplicity, none on complexity. Vocal or instrumental, this music tends to sing
sweetly, assertively, forcefully, always under control.

Internet Sound Sculpture

. The main aim of my project- Global Music Sculpture is to present actual
sociopolitical situation in the world in a new, original way. Global Music
Sculpture is self-standing object
placed in a busy place (i.e public squares, cornersŠ). Basic musical structure
is contemporary classical music played on acoustic instrument samples;
post-modern, post-minimalistic music based on the traditions of Philip Glass and
John Cage.The main characteristic of music sculpture is interactivity. Through
telephone line the sculpture is constantly connected with the world computer
network - Internet, and through software I have developed, it collects
information about political situation in the world.The listeners choose which
kind of information they would like the sculpture to collect. This information
can be sorted geographically (if we are interested in situation in a particular
region); sociologically (if we are interested in relations between some groups
of people- relations between sexes, races, and classesŠ)
. The sculpture is collecting information 24 hours, and statistically analyzig
key words on 
certain subjects on all major and interesting Internet channels and sites.All
that information is reflecting on the music. It changes its dynamic, agogic,
tonality, type of instrument and rhythm, so this way music expresses the
political and social situation in the world. From technical support there is
just one PC of average speed needed, a telephone line, and a pair of speakers.
Although it seems that this project is very complicated, I have already made the
sculpture here in Zagreb. I would like to make one sculpture for any town, and
in the future, the idea is to make a network of music sculptures around the
world and they could serve like a network of barometers that could measure the
global state of mind.
