"The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a UN agency, was
forced to shut down part of its Web site yesterday after it was hacked into
by a computer vandal. Instead of showing a collection of laws for electronic
access, a link on the WIPO Web site displayed lyrics from a song by rock
star Bruce Springsteen under the caption     "Children of the Darkstar."

WIPO Assistant Director-General Geoffrey Yu said the organization will
probably keep the site closed for a few days. "With more and more users
visiting the site, we have been wondering when someone would play a trick on
us," he said.  Yu said he had no idea who might have hacked into the site,
but said WIPO's technical department believed it was "one of the
