[comment on oil exporting countries and nuclear power: it would seem
that there is a natural incentive for oil exporting countries whose
wealth is tied to oil to find another source of energy and to be able
to sell the oil instead of use its limited resource for short-term
development gains. nuclear power seems to be one way this is possible
and it is wondered if there is anything to the workings of oil markets
and the desire for nuclear power to offset domestic consumption so as
to capitalize on the oil cartel systems. maybe not though it is
wondered.]

* .US political rhetoric about 'character assassination' by opponents as
common fare of business-as-usual brute-force political campaigning
almost
seems to be something else, in terms of EM: crucifixion by mass media.
this,
in a secular sense, a non-denominational refererance to the moral
judgement
passed down corridors of EM power, media, technology to deliver the
word,
all that is missing, as was requested, is the visible thumbs-up or
down...

01) --top stories--
---------------------------------------------------
// there is strange timing on this story, it was in the local paper but
// yet widely circulating in online news, so its severity was somewhat
// hard to judge. what is even stranger is that the local paper version
// spoke of Iran striking back against Israel's reactor at Dimona,
should
// anything start down the wrong path. now, with the version drudge
picked
// up, again a mainstream source, it is about Iran attacking the .US
too,
// as apparently the 'peaceful' resolution to the nuclear issues remain
// in a context of increasing threats -- about nuclear plants and
weapons.
// this would appear to be becoming a more delicate and volatile
situation
// for whatever reasons (that would appear to be unreported, as Condi
Rice
// just blanketed the airwaves as to why the .US was hands-off Iran,
then
// a flipflop of tremendous tragic consequence if this is
fast-and-loose,
// with nuclear issues and diplomacy versus more pre-emptive
neoconning).
// * not to disregard the complex issues, but how did this evolve as
such?
// (meaning: how did the .US posture change so radically and so
quickly?).
// it is up to diplomats to address these issues, but this is war
talk...

Iran warns of preemptive strike to prevent attack on nuclear sites

iran_nuclear_us_israel_040818201404&printer=1>

'The latest comments mark an escalation in an exchange of threats
between Israel and Iran in recent weeks, leading to speculation that
there may be a repeat of Israel's strike against Iraqi nuclear
facilities at Osirak in 1981.' .... 'He also warned that Iran would
consider itself no longer bound by its commitments to the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the event of an attack.'

// consider the .US has a majority of its active-duty military forces
sitting
// between two countries threatening a nuclear exchange, the .US
needing both
// to get through the already insane situation, then chooses to side
with one
// in its domestic affairs to a degree to be pre-empted in a nuclear
exchange
// -- and this is a policy chosen by the current .US administration, to
place
// soldiers and citizens there in even more dire straights than exists
today:
// a nuclear exchange and the entire .US military could be disabled at
once.
// it was thought things could not get too much worse by choice. (that
is, a
// more balanced, diplomatic position would be fundamental
now)...incredible.
// it is hard to imagine a more inane policy decision, it's truly
incompetent.

'Now Israel, claiming to prepare against a possible "hit on its
nuclear reactor," has started distributing antiradiation pills to
civilians in townships surrounding it. In a country that has always
sought to keep its nuclear activities out of the spotlight, that is a
highly unusual step.' .... 'Even if the Iranians are working on a bomb,
Israel may not be their real concern. Iran is now surrounded by
American forces on all sides - in the Central Asian republics to the
north, Afghanistan to the east, the Gulf to the South and Iraq to the
west. Shamkhani expressed Tehran's unease at the American presence in
an Al Jazeera interview broadcast late Wednesday, in which he hinted
that some Iranian commanders believe they should strike first if they
sense an imminent threat from the United States.' .. 'Wherever U.S
forces go, nuclear weapons go with them or can be made to follow in
short order. The world has witnessed how the United States attacked
Iraq for, as it turned out, no reason at all. Had the Iranians not
tried to build nuclear weapons, they would be crazy.' .. 'Though Iran
is ruled by Islamic fundamentalists,...' .... 'In the end, it all
depends on Ariel Sharon...'

'The guidance system is constantly in touch with public and real time
databases: bus, train and tram routes and schedules, information about
roadworks, news and weather services. The system helps in planning the
trip and guides to the next stop. It also informs of the arrival of the
vehicle and tells where to get off. With the help of satellite
positioning, a visually impaired person can also store walking routes
that have already been tested and proven good. The system is not a

// the big discovery in trying to learn more about sensors, here, was
that
// their linearity and resistance were often the way things were
measured,
// or sensed, and not some special circuitry. instead it is a rather
basic
// effect or process that is captured in some electronic device,
hooked-up
// to a circuit to interpret this change. (at least, it seems that
there are
// types of sensors that are components, though maybe there are other
types.)
// if there is an 'analog' aspect (N) of a range of possible outcomes
at a
// scale, maybe the sensing could cover a range which could then be
computed,
// given calibration in a circuit, like thermister circuits seem to
require.
// (could quantum effects exist in analog-digital realms,
simultaneously?).
// (maybe temperature is a composition of atoms as a calculating device,
// a nanotube is a computer, or a nanotube is a temperature circuit...)

Nanotubes may have no 'temperature'
Could quantum effects plague miniature devices?
<http://www.nature.com/news/2004/040816/full/040816-4.html>

'Physicists have made a bizarre discovery: the concept of temperature
is meaningless in some tiny objects. Although the concept of
temperature is known to break down on the scale of individual atoms,
research now suggests that it may also fail to apply in rather larger
entities, such as carbon nanotubes.' .... 'But the physicists divided
the compartments into smaller and smaller boxes, until they reached a
point where the chain could never reach thermal equilibrium because of
the statistical fluctuations inherent in the quantum world.' .. 'At
this size limit, hot spots can sit next to cooler spots, without any
energy flowing between the two. Moreover, the temperature of one
compartment may fluctuate unpredictably over time. "It all boils down
to the quantum uncertainty principle," says Hess.'

Zap, Bam: Light-activated Glue Holds And Releases Workpieces In A Flash
<http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/08/040818085302.htm>

'In the new approach, the workpiece is anchored to a steel fixture
that conforms to the underside of the workpiece. At strategic locations
on its surface, the fixture has holes capped with small, round, raised
pads made of commercial sapphire, a relatively inexpensive ceramic
material. These pads, which De Meter calls gripper pins, act as lenses
or windows for ultra violet or infrared light used to set or destroy
glue anchoring the workpiece.' .. 'To load a workpiece, dabs of
adhesive are placed on the gripper pins and the workpiece is put on
top. A quick zap of low intensity ultraviolet light from a UV spot lamp
delivered through the gripper pins causes the adhesive to set and form
strong, tough, stiff bonds with the workpiece in seconds. The yield
strength of the cured adhesive bond is greater than 5500 pounds per
square inch.' .. 'When machining or other processing is completed,
infrared light delivered by a laser through the gripper pins destroys
the adhesive bonds and releases the workpiece. The laser blast destroys
the adhesive bonds in a fraction of a second without heat transfer to
the fixture or the workpiece.'
